If you are looking for a more laid back trip, you can stay in one of the 17 hotels in Socorro. Then, when you arrive, you can enjoy the town’s many dining options.

The city of Socorro is steeped in history. The Spanish first trekked through the area in the 1600s, eventually settling in the town. They established a mission in the area in 1626, which was abandoned during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. For nearly 130 years, Socorro lay dormant before resettling the town in 1815. Not long after the town’s resettlement, the San Miguel Church was constructed.

While you’re in Socorro, you can visit the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, which is situated just outside the town. This observatory is home to some of the world’s best astronomical radio telescopes, including the Very Large Array. The Very Large Array, which is located fifty miles west of Socorro, is one of the world’s top astronomical radio observatories. Its 27 Y-shaped radio antennas are used to gather and process data on the universe.

A climate like Socorro’s is typical of New Mexico. The summer months are hot, but the temperature rarely reaches the triple digits. In winter, temperatures remain relatively mild and cool, with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the low teens. Although Socorro experiences a variety of weather, its climate is moderate. There are few days of frost, and nights rarely dip below zero. Socorro is a popular place for artists and scientists alike.

Socorro is a picturesque town that offers plenty of outdoor activities for nature lovers. Its rugged landscapes and scenic views offer the perfect backdrop for hiking and mountain biking. You can also enjoy some great running trails in the area. And don’t forget to sample one of the famous green chile cheeseburgers. It’s a city you shouldn’t miss.
