Fort Davis is a census-designated place in Jefferson County, Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,201. Before the 2000 census, the population was only a little over a thousand. Fort Davis is the county seat of Jeff Davis County. There are several things to do in Fort Davis. You might want to consider a vacation to Fort Davis, or even move there permanently. For foodie travelers, there is a wide variety of dining options in Fort Davis. The Veranda Historic Inn is the oldest hotel in the region, with 12-foot ceilings and antiques. The restaurant serves homemade breakfasts and features a sheltered veranda. The Harvard Hotel & Lodge has five suites, all of which are named after friends or family. The suites are furnished with quality linens and pillowtop mattresses. Those who love reptiles may enjoy a visit to the Rattlers and Reptiles Museum.

If you’d rather explore the surrounding area, you can check out the Fort Davis National Historic Site. You can also visit the University of Texas McDonald Observatory, which is located near the city. The Fort Davis National Park Unit is another great place to visit if you’re visiting the area. There’s plenty to do here, and the city’s historic buildings and parks are worth seeing. Fort Davis Texas was first established in 1854 and played an important role in the history of the Southwest. The fort served as a fort along the San Antonio-El Paso Highway. As the road to California opened, Fort Davis was used as a military outpost. After the Civil War, Fort Davis was reestablished and expanded until 1891. It was later abandoned, but it was declared a National Historic Site by the National Park Service in 1961. Fort Davis is one of the best examples of an Indian Wars frontier military post in the Southwest.

The city is a perfect addition to your West Texas road trip! You can visit Fort Davis during any season. It is also worth checking out its museums, and you can take a 75-mile scenic loop through the city.

For a delicious meal, stop in at Fort Davis Drug Store. This old-fashioned soda fountain serves delicious chicken-fried steak, hamburgers, and big breakfasts. You can try WildGin Co. gin at the Blue Mountain Bar & Grill. Try the signature Geoff’s Balmorhea Springs cocktail, or try a WildGin Co. gin on the rocks. It is one of the few places in Fort Davis that serves WildGin Co.
