15 Tourist Attractions in Kanab Utah

May 3, 2022 | More: Tourist Attractions

If you are traveling to the southwest, you may want to spend some time in Kanab, Utah. This small town is located on the border of Utah and Arizona, making it an ideal stopping point for your road trip. In addition to being an ideal spot to rest your legs, Kanab is a great place to visit if you are planning on seeing a few nearby sites. Here, you can get a taste of the unique culture of this small town.

A unique and hidden gem near Kanab is Old Paria, a ghost town that was once an active settlement. It was used as a film set in the 1960s when westerns were popular. Nowadays, it’s a popular photo location. Regardless of whether you choose to take a photograph or simply take in the scenery, you won’t regret visiting Old Paria. Whether you prefer hiking, photography, or just being surrounded by nature, you’re sure to find a memorable experience in Kanab.

The town’s history can be explored by visiting the Moqui Museum, located inside a red rock cave. The museum displays Native American artifacts and the history of the region’s first inhabitants. It also features preserved dinosaur tracks. Both of these attractions are within a half-hour drive of Kanab. And if you’re looking for a day trip from the city, consider visiting Zion National Park, which is only 30 minutes away. It has some of the world’s most beautiful hiking trails, including Angels Landing and Emerald Pools.

You can also take a hike in the area, including the popular Dinosaur Tracks. This trail leads to a beautiful plateau where you can see grallator prints, which is located at the base of a mountain. The views from the plateau are mostly over the highway, but are worth it for the scenic beauty. Another attraction in the city is the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a no-kill animal sanctuary. While visiting the sanctuary, you can adopt a pet at the shelter.

You can stay in historic motels in Kanab. The Juniper Forest Inn is a charming two-bedroom, two-bathroom home on the outskirts of civilization. It features a private kitchen, washer/dryer, and a breathtaking balcony, so you can enjoy the view from the privacy of your room. Another great choice is the Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile, which is owned by the Best Friends Animal Society. Both of these motels offer pet-friendly accommodations and a dog wash area. There’s also a pet-sitting service for an additional fee.

Another popular attraction is the Cottonwood Canyon. This scenic trail is located in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. It is 10.1 miles long, and can be looped with the Cockscomb Trail. You can find the trailhead about 25 miles from Kanab, on US-89. There’s also a no-kill animal sanctuary in Kanab. If you haven’t gotten enough of Kanab’s charm, Page may be a good alternative.
