15 Typical Gifts from Ferndale and the Avenue of the Giants California

March 23, 2022 | More: Ferndale and the Avenue of the Giants California| Souvenirs

A holiday destination that will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, Ferndale and the Avenue of the Giants are an hour and a half north of San Francisco. The picturesque Victorian Village sits between two popular redwoods parks. A day trip to the Avenue of the Giants and the new Redwood Sky Walk at Sequoia Park Zoo is a short drive away. In the winter, Ferndale comes alive with numerous winter events and holiday traditions.

The Avenue of the Giants is a scenic highway in northern California that runs through the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The area was named for the coastal redwoods that adorned the forest. The road was formerly the alignment of U.S. Route 101, but it is now maintained as a state highway. While there are many places to shop along the Avenue, the main attractions are listed below:

The city features a mix of Victorian and Arts & Crafts architecture. Stick, Eastlake, and Queen Anne style buildings were created in the local forests. The buildings feature beautiful and unique redwood details. This is a great place for a family reunion. If you’re traveling with children, consider stopping by Ferndale to learn about the history of the town’s Indigenous people. The quaint downtown district offers lots of great shopping and restaurants.

The Humboldt Redwoods Visitor Center features a wide array of exhibits and educational displays. The Kellogg Travel Log was carved from a fallen log, and is the most preserved Victorian Village in California. You can pick up an Ave of the Giants brochure at the visitor center, which you can buy for yourself or for your children. The visitor center also provides daily interpretive activities to keep the children interested and learning about the trees.

In Ferndale, the Avenue of the Giants is a 31-mile stretch of Old Highway 101 that runs between Phillipsville and Pepperwood. It features the largest concentration of coastal redwoods in the world. The best natural attraction along the Avenue of the Bay is Founders Grove. A visit to Ferndale will not be complete without seeing the magnificent giants. If you’re looking for a holiday destination, a trip to the Bay Area is a great way to make a memorable holiday vacation.

While the Avenue of the Giants is an extremely touristy destination, it is worth a visit, and is a must-see for those who love the great outdoors. There are many ways to spend your holiday in Ferndale and the surrounding area. The town’s charming historic Main Street is a wonderful place to spend the holidays. The downtown has a great variety of restaurants, and there are many places to eat.
