Top 15 Places to Visit in Great Falls Montana

April 29, 2022 | More: Great Falls Montana| Places to Visit

If you’re planning a trip to Great Falls, Montana, you’re probably wondering what to do in the city. This article provides a brief overview of this fascinating western city. There are many great things to see and do in Great Falls, including the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretation Center, which has exhibits on the explorers’ route. And while you’re in the area, don’t miss the Giant Springs State Park, which is located right next door.

The Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art is a must-see for art lovers, with over 800 pieces of art on display. The museum is housed in a historic building where Great Falls High School was first located. On the first floor of the museum, you can view paintings by famous American artist C.M. Russell, as well as more contemporary works of art. If you’re interested in learning more about the history of this area, you’ll also find a unique American diner in town that features a wide array of cuisine.

Another must-see in Great Falls is St. Ann Cathedral, an ornate Gothic-style Catholic church built in the early 20th century. Located near the Ryan Dam, this 900-foot-wide building is a historic site. While you’re in town, don’t miss visiting Earthquake Lake, which was named after a major earthquake in southern Montana in 1959. Afterwards, don’t miss the town’s many museums, including the Art Center.

A visit to Great Falls Montana would not be complete without a trip to the C.M. Russell Museum. This museum features a large collection of Charles M. Russell paintings and sculptural works. You’ll learn about the artist’s life, as well as the landscapes of the West. The museum also features his studio and original home. While you’re there, you’ll get a chance to explore some of the other exhibits, as well as to get a firsthand view of his influence and artistic style.

Located fifteen minutes west of Great Falls, Buffalo Jump Park is an important archaeological site. Historically, buffalo were jumped from cliff formations in this area to hunt bison. The park also features a large education center and has hundreds of bird species. And if you’re looking for a great place to watch the sun rise and set over the mountains, you should definitely visit Sluice Boxes State Park. This national park is home to a beautiful portion of the Belt Creek Canyon, which cuts through picturesque limestone cliffs.

If you’re interested in history, you can visit the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and view a two-story replica boat of the expedition’s journey. The museum is built into the river bank, so visitors can experience the natural beauty of this area while exploring the historical site. A nature trail, along the riverbank, connects the interpretive center with the River’s Edge Trail. The museum is open to the public year-round, and admission to the center is free.
