15 Best Campgrounds near Glenwood Springs Colorado

April 25, 2022 | More: Campgrounds| Glenwood Springs Colorado

If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping to the mountains, you’ve likely heard of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This hot springs town is located in the rugged Rocky Mountains, surrounded by the White River National Forest. The city’s evocative surroundings include the Hanging Lake and Glenwood Canyon, which is filled with wildlife. To top off the experience, you can go on a roller coaster or even take a ride on the canyon swings.

The town’s elevation of 5,761 feet (1,756 m) makes it easy to navigate and reach the most popular attractions. Local buses make stops throughout the town, and cabs are available around the clock. Getting around without a car in this Colorado town is simple. Moreover, the town’s website, Visit Glenwood, offers comprehensive transportation information, including information on the local airport and Amtrak train stations, as well as links to valley-wide RFTA bus schedules.

The town’s scenic vistas and four seasons make it an ideal destination for outdoor activities. Visitors can raft along the Colorado River, ride a bike, or fish miles of gold-medal rivers. In the autumn, the town welcomes big game hunters for hunting. In the winter, skiers can enjoy a trip to Sunlight Mountain Resort. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, this small town offers plenty of options.

Campgrounds are another way to explore the city. RVs and tents can be parked in various campgrounds in Glenwood Springs. You can also use these campgrounds to enjoy the town’s amenities, like flush toilets, showers, and pools. Moreover, two KOA campgrounds are located nearby, which make them a great option for those with RVs. However, you may also want to explore the nearby cities of Aspen or Vail if you want to do some shopping or enjoy the outdoors.

If you’re looking for a relaxing escape, this town’s hot springs will surely satisfy your desires. The resort’s hot springs waters are kept at 104 degrees Fahrenheit, which is believed to provide therapeutic effects. In addition, you can enjoy a spa treatment at its Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. You can also check out the Athletic Club and participate in some workouts. Aside from hot springs, the resort offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking and mountain biking.

The town’s roots are deeply rooted in Native American culture. Ute Indians once used the hot springs for their migrations during the summer. Today, the town continues to preserve its Western heritage with working ranches and agritourism. In addition, Glenwood Springs is designated a Preserve America Community in January 2006.

The town’s rich history stretches back several centuries. In the late 1800s, Glenwood Springs was home to a famous dentist, gambler, and gunfighter named John Henry “Doc” Holliday. The town’s colorful and rowdy early days have been celebrated through a self-guided historical walking tour. Highlights include the grave of notorious outlaw Kid Curry, the historic train station, and the Doc Holliday Museum.
