15 Hiking Trails in Flagstaff Arizona

March 25, 2022 | More: Flagstaff Arizona| Hiking Trails

Flagstaff is a city in Arizona that’s surrounded by ponderosa pine forests, a desert landscape, and mountains. The San Francisco Peaks, which include the state’s tallest mountain, Humphreys Peak, are located near Flagstaff. It’s also home to the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort, a popular destination for winter sports. If you’re a history buff, you can tour the Native American pueblo sites in Wupatki National Monument and explore Walnut Canyon, a canyon filled with cliff dwellings.

For a taste of the past, Flagstaff offers many opportunities to explore its historical past. This city was a thriving railroad and lumber town in the 1800s. The Arizona Historical Society runs the Pioneer Museum, which is situated in an old hospital on several acres of natural land. The Pioneer Museum features interactive exhibits and a one-room cabin from the early days of this area. A visit to this landmark will provide a fascinating look at the history of this unique community.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, Flagstaff offers a number of hiking trails and other attractions. Almost any type of trail will take you somewhere new, and there are plenty of hiking trails throughout the region. You can explore three national monuments while you’re in town, which is a great way to get the full experience. Once you’re here, you’ll be glad you did! It’s the perfect place to kick back, relax, and recharge.

To get a real taste of the local landscape, you can hike the Lava River Trail, a shady 4.6-mile route that offers sweeping views of the Painted Desert, Mormon Mountain, and Oak Creek Canyon. The 7.5-mile route through the woods is a favorite of mountain bikers and hikers, and is popular with families. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try the Lava River, a mountain made of lava.

If you’re an outdoorsy type, you should take your time hiking in Flagstaff. The Fatman’s Loop is an easy 4.5-mile out-and-back hike in Buffalo Park. For a longer, more challenging hike, try the Kendrick Peak, an extinct volcano that is similar to the San Francisco Peaks. You’ll also find the famous Kendrick Mountain, which is a big volcano that’s close to the city.

There’s an abundance of hiking opportunities in the area. The Weatherford Trail is just 20 miles north of Flagstaff. This route features crazy volcanic formations, and the Bonito Lava Flow is a frozen lava flow. The Weatherford Trail is an excellent alternative to the Humphreys Trail, which is more popular. In addition to better scenery, you’ll also get to see wildlife as you pedal through the beautiful landscape.

If you’re an avid gamer, you can play tabletop Monopoly or Zelda plushies. The Geekery is located on the first floor of the historic Hotel Monte Vista. There’s a great coffee bar there as well, so grab a drink while you’re there! The city’s air quality is high, and the city’s residents are friendly. Regardless of your interests, you’ll find the perfect place to stay in Flagstaff.
