15 Hiking Trails in Newport Oregon

May 27, 2022 | More: Hiking Trails| Newport Oregon

There are a number of things to do in Newport, Oregon. If you’re staying in town for the weekend, you may want to check out the nearby Seal Rock State Park. You’ll be near the Oregon Coast Aquarium and local restaurants. You can also spend the day exploring the town’s Deco District, which offers a nostalgic vibe. If you like the outdoors, you’ll want to take a walk along the beaches of Newport.

For a more peaceful and secluded experience, paddle your kayak in Beaver Creek. Kayaking tours at Beaver Creek launch from Ona Beach State Park, located about 5 miles south of South Beach. You’ll wind your way through coastal wetland, keeping an eye out for local wildlife. While kayaking in Newport, you’ll be able to see more of the Pacific coastline than you would from the bay. The kayaking is a popular activity, and it is quite a different experience from the bay.

The Yaquina Bay Bridge connects the coastal towns of Newport and South Beach. It was designed by Conde McCullogh, and exhibits elements of Art Deco, Art Moderne, and Gothic styles. As you cross this historic bridge, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the bayfront. If you’re into architecture, head to the Newport Art Center to see a stunning mural. While you’re in Newport, don’t miss the renowned Performing Arts Center. It offers unforgettable performances every weekend. And don’t forget to check out the Sea Lion Docks, which sit alongside the historic bayfront. There are a number of sea lions roaming in the sea.

While visiting Newport, try to avoid the rainy season when visiting. The rainiest months of November, December, and January receive the highest rainfall, while the driest months are July and August. During these months, temperatures rarely reach sixty degrees or higher. During other times of the year, you’ll find a range of activities that are fun to do. And if you don’t want to spend all your time outdoors, you can always take a stroll along the beach.

The historic Bayfront is another popular part of the town. The town’s countless attractions are easily accessible and within walking distance of each other. The city’s harborside is home to Ripley’s Believe it or Not! world, which boasts 11 galleries filled with wacky exhibits. The museum features a wide variety of artifacts that have taken a hundred years to collect. And visitors can try their hand at playing interactive games.

If you’re looking for a tasty treat, try a local restaurant in the town. Newport offers more than 80 eateries ranging from small cafes to fine dining. In addition, the Rogue Brewery has both an original Brewery and a Rogue House of Spirits. Located on the Historic Bayfront, Mo’s Restaurant has been in business since 1946. In addition to the original restaurant, the annex is an equally delightful, smaller venue that overlooks the Newport Bay.
