University of Northern Iowa is the major university in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Its population is about 40,713 according to the 2010 census. Founded in 1865, Cedarville is the state’s first public university. The city is home to the University of Northern and Southern Iowa. The University of Northwestern, which offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, is the largest employer in Cedarville. The city’s economy relies on agriculture and a growing number of people live in the area.
