June 1, 2022 | More: New Castle Delaware| Why Travel to

The city of New Castle, Delaware is situated on the banks of the Delaware River and is a six-mile drive south of Wilmington. It is one of the oldest and most renowned cities in Delaware. The town’s quaint Victorian architecture is reminiscent of a bygone era, and there are a variety of attractions and historical buildings to explore. It has a small college, but it’s definitely worth checking out. To get the most out of your trip to New Castle, consider taking the time to tour the town’s many attractions.

The Historic District of New Castle features a quaint 20-block area lined with restaurants, cafes, historic houses, gardens, and other landmarks. The town was named one of the most picturesque small towns in the United States in several lists. Its many buildings date back to the 17th and early 18th centuries and are a must-see for history buffs. You can learn about New Castle’s early history by visiting the Old Library Museum. It’s open to the public from May until November, and is free of charge.

The Amstel House, a 1730s early Georgian mansion, is another notable historic site. It is considered the first grand mansion in the state of Delaware and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The property is also home to the popular haunted house tour each October. Another historic site is the New Castle Presbyterian Church, built in 1657. The congregation was one of the seven churches that organized the first Presbytery of the United States in 1706. This church was restored to its original style after World War II.

If you’re planning a trip to historic New Castle, Delaware, you might want to check out the New Castle Community History and Archaeology Program’s website. You can learn about the history of New Castle’s founding, its first inhabitants, and the city’s colorful past. You can also find a number of good lodging options in New Castle, which makes it a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. If you’re looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, New Castle is a great place to start.

The town has long been a cultural center for the residents of Delaware. Historically, it served as the seat of the Lower Counties-on-Delaware. On September 21, 1776, a convention of these counties proclaimed a constitution to form the state of Delaware. During this period, New Castle briefly served as the state’s capital, but it moved to Dover in 1777. Three of the signers of the Declaration of Independence lived in New Castle.

Old New Castle is another historic location worth visiting. It was the first colony to declare independence, and even before Thomas Jefferson finished writing the Declaration of Independence. Most of these historic buildings are still in place. It is also the second largest historic area in the country in terms of authenticity of historic structures. Old New Castle is a great place for history buffs and girls’ trip destinations. Once the colonial town’s waters were low, you can enjoy a scenic walk along the Delaware River, where you can see the river.
