15 Reasons Why you should Stay in Lewes Delaware

May 6, 2022 | More: Why Travel to

Lewes is a incorporated city in eastern Sussex County, Delaware. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 2,747. Lewes is one of the principal cities of Delaware’s rapidly expanding Cape Region. The town is located on Delaware Bay, on the eastern shore of the state. During the past century, it has been a popular vacation destination for people from all over the world. Its charming historic buildings, fine restaurants and vibrant nightlife make it a desirable place to live.

A walk in Lewes is a fun way to discover the town’s history. The historic district contains restored homes from a bygone era. The Downtown District is a charming area to explore boutiques, restaurants, and bed and breakfasts. Visitors can also find a museum of local history at the Lewes Historical Society. The Zwaanendael Museum dates back to 1631 and reflects the history of the town.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Lewes, consider staying at the Bluewater House. You’ll be within walking distance to the beach and Angler’s Road. There are several restaurants and pubs to explore, so you’ll never be short on options. Whether you want to enjoy a day on the beach or explore the town, you’ll love Lewes. It’s a great way to spend a weekend with family or a romantic getaway with your significant other.

If you’re a beer lover, Lewes is the place to go. Delaware is consistently ranked as the top state in the US for bicycling, and there are many opportunities to enjoy both. In fact, the Pints & Pedals bike tour allows you to enjoy beer while cycling. While the beer in Lewes is great, the experience of cycling with a beer is truly unique. So if you’re planning a weekend trip to Lewes, don’t forget to include a few pints and pedals.

For those who don’t want to drive, there are several ways to reach Lewes. During the summer months, the Delaware River and Bay Authority operates a shuttle bus that connects the Cape May-Lewes ferry terminal to downtown Lewes. This service also runs to the Tanger Outlets and Rehoboth Beach Park and Ride. The ferry will take you across Delaware Bay in just a few minutes. In addition to the shuttle bus, you can also take a taxi or ride a bike.

If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Lewes, the Heirloom Cafe is a great choice. The restaurant has fantastic food and a fabulous cheese and charcuterie board. Try the pan-seared Ocean City scallops with cauliflower cream, shaved leeks, and back alley mulberry gastrique. This is an excellent place for a friends’ weekend.

Lewes is also home to the historic Cape-May-Lewes Ferry. During the War of 1812, British naval ships led by HMS Poictiers briefly bombarded the town. A cannonball from the bombardment is now lodged in the foundation of the Cannonball House, which serves as the maritime museum of the town. The town was incorporated on Feb. 2, 1818, by an act of the state assembly. In the years leading up to the Civil War, Lewes served as an important stop for the Underground Railroad.
