15 Reasons Why you should Stay in Middletown and Strasburg Virginia

May 19, 2022 | More: Middletown and Strasburg Virginia| Why Travel to

If you’re planning a trip to Middletown and Strasburg Virginia, here are some things to do. Each town offers something a little different, but these two towns are close enough to be within easy driving distance of each other. Middletown has a lot to offer visitors, from a Belle Grove Plantation to several history museums. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or a fun night out, these towns have plenty to offer.

In Middletown, VA, you can take in the history and enjoy a golf course. You can also take a canoe trip down Cedar Creek. The town has a car dealership, too. And if you want to have a good time exploring, you can also visit a car dealership in the town. The nearby Cedar Creek Rivers also make for great family outings. The town is a perfect destination for any season.

If you’re interested in history, visit the Battle of Cedar Creek, which occurred here in 1864. The battle is commemorated with a stonewall Jackson marker in the front of the Wayside Inn. The Stonewall Jackson marker commemorates the 1862 campaign and is surrounded by a replica of the Cedar Creek battlefield. The markers were placed at the Battlefield in Middletown by the Conservation and Development Commission in 1929.

The Valley Pike served as an important transportation link in the Valley Campaign of 1862 and 1864. Jackson’s men encamped on Bower’s Hill and were supported by a Union artillery battery. It took them 36 hours to march 40 miles from Middletown to Strasburg. But heavy rains and deep mud stalled the pursuers and delayed the assault. The monument is about 150 yards east of the Valley Pike, which is now U. S. Route 11.

The town of Fredericksburg has a lot to offer visitors. Fort Monroe was the site of Jefferson Davis’ imprisonment for two years. Slave trade continued in this town, so there are many slaves here today. Visit the Casemate Museum to learn more about the fort’s history. Nearby, you’ll find four major Civil War battlefields. Spotsylvania, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville were all fought here. The Confederacy lost a large number of soldiers at these battles and many remain unidentified.

Visitors to the area can also check out the Colonial National Historical Park. Located nearby, you can find several sites from the early American Revolution, including Historic Jamestown and the Yorktown Battlefield. Both of these sites are also worth visiting, and the town boasts several museums and parks. The Appalachian Trail passes through the town’s park. If you’re looking for a family-friendly vacation, consider staying in one of these towns.
