15 Reasons Why you should Stay in New Castle Delaware

May 26, 2022 | More: New Castle Delaware| Why Travel to

While you’re in New Castle Delaware, you should spend some time exploring Battery Park. The three-mile trail stretches 1.5 miles along the Delaware River. Built in 1832, it was formerly home to the Frenchtown Railroad Ticket Office, which was moved to Battery Park. The railroad was one of the primary reasons for the growth of the city before the Civil War. The area is full of historic buildings, including a 19th century church and the Frenchtown Railroad Ticket Office, which was moved to Battery Park in the 1950s.

Unlike the town’s Disney-esque history, the historic town has kept a lot of its colonial, Dutch, and Federal architecture intact. Despite the ambiance, residents live in 21st century homes and rarely dress in colonial costumes for 364 days of the year. In fact, they only dress up in historical clothing on Old New Castle Day, which is celebrated on the third Saturday of May. But if you want to feel like you’re living in the 17th century, you can take a walk along the waterfront and enjoy the view of the Delaware River.

The city’s historic district has much to offer travelers. A walk through time will take you through the town’s history, from early European exploration to the development of the town under three different countries. From there, you’ll discover how New Castle evolved into a jewel-like brick colonial capital. The town center is preserved, and a National Historic Landmark. The Old Court House, for example, was built in 1730 and was the meeting place of the colony’s assembly in 1776.

Another historic building in New Castle is the Old Library. Its Victorian-style buildings are lined with shops, cafes, and historic homes. You can tour the Old Library Museum on your own or listen to an audio tour. Read House is another historic building in New Castle, Delaware. The house was constructed by George Read II, a successful businessman and lawyer. His father was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. If you’re planning a trip to the city, you’ll want to make sure you take some time to explore it.

One of the best places to enjoy the waterfront in New Castle is Battery Park, which is located along the Delaware River. The park was originally a military fort, and William Penn landed here during his first trip to America. The old docks are still visible, especially during the low water levels of the Delaware River. You can see these docks as you stroll along the waterfront and enjoy some history. They’re now a bustling commercial hub.

Whether you want to shop for clothes or a computer, Delaware has many places to choose from. If you have kids, there are playgrounds, slides, and antique shops in Battery Park. You can also enjoy the Delaware River and the Delaware Memorial Bridges in nearby Wilmington. You’ll enjoy a day of sightseeing in this small town. And you’ll find plenty to see in New Castle. With no sales tax, Delaware is definitely worth a visit.
