You might have seen Havre de Grace Maryland on an episode of Boardwalk Empire, but what is Havre de Grace really like? Havre de Grace is a Baltimore suburb, located on Chesapeake Bay. It is home to one of only a few working dredge boats in the Chesapeake Bay. Its unique character is the result of a combination of maritime history and modern development. Here are a few things you should know about this town.

Located at the mouth of the Susquehanna River and the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, Havre de Grace is an idyllic location to take a vacation. The Cultural Center at the Opera House is another notable attraction in Havre de Grace. This 1870 theater hall is rarely used for opera performances anymore. Originally known as the “Opera House,” the building was completely renovated in 2013. In 2013, it was made accessible to the public as part of the town’s National Historic District arts and entertainment district. Today, it hosts live entertainment throughout the year. So, whether you are looking for a romantic date, a family celebration, or something else to keep your kids occupied for a long while, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Havre de Grace.

If you love outdoor activities, you’ll love Havre de Grace, Maryland. This picturesque city has several activities to keep you busy. Located on the eastern coast of Maryland, Havre de Grace is a charming small town at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The city features charming shops and a gorgeous lighthouse. Unlike the frantic pace of the city, Havre de Grace is a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

The Maritime Museum preserves the city’s maritime history. It includes a classroom, a boat shop, and an environmental center. Inside, you’ll find over twenty permanent exhibits about life at sea. The museum also has a kids’ corner and playground. If you’re visiting the city by boat, you’ll want to make sure to check out the eight-acre City Yacht Basin. This public park is located right on the waterfront and has several attractions, including a playground and restrooms.

For lunch or dinner, consider visiting Bella’s Tea Room in downtown Havre de Grace. The owners of this charming café were immigrants from Peru, so they’re well versed in the cuisine of this part of the country. The owners also run the popular Bamboo House in Cockeysville. This family-owned establishment serves regional Italian specialties. The menu features traditional scones and tea sandwiches, as well as flavored and decaffeinated tea.

The city has a diverse population and is home to many Fortune 500 companies. Its median age was 41.9 years. One in four residents were under 18, and seven percent were between 18 and 24. Twenty-four percent of households had one or two people under the age of five. Twenty-six percent of the population was over sixty-four years old. One in five households was non-family and thirteen percent were senior citizens. The average household size in Havre de Grace was two-and-a-half people, and more than half of the housing units were renter-occupied.

Besides being a coastal city, Havre de Grace is also a major industrial center. It is home to the oldest winery in the state. It began during Prohibition and now sells wines all over the state. At one time, Jehovah’s Witnesses were banned from a local park. But thanks to a landmark case in the US Supreme Court, they’re able to continue to make wine and sell it.
