May 10, 2022 | More: Jackson MS| Tourist Attractions

If you’re looking for a fun weekend destination with the family, consider a trip to Jackson MS. The city’s fascinating museums and historic landmarks are sure to delight visitors. While there are numerous attractions to see in the area, don’t forget to take your children to the Jackson MS Children’s Museum and Russell C Davis Planetarium. Families can learn all about the natural history of the state and get hands-on with exhibits in the museum’s galleries.

Visit the Mississippi Museum of Art to see over 4,000 works of art. You’ll find Native American, Japanese, European, and 19th century American works of art here. The museum also runs art classes and education programs for children. You can take your kids to see the exhibits and get a free art lesson from a local artist. During your trip to Jackson, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the area’s history.

The Mississippi State Capitol is another popular attraction in Jackson, MS. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, this building has a history dating back to the early 1900s. If you plan to visit the capitol, make sure you check out the gift shop, where you can purchase some interesting items. The architecture is elegant and a visit to the capitol is definitely worth your time. If you’re looking for something a little more shady, check out the Jackson State University.

Another must-see in downtown Jackson is the Old Greyhound Bus Station. This historic building was the location of several high-profile arrests during the Civil Rights Movement. The owner of this building, Robert Parker Adams, restored the interior and exterior of the historic building. His restoration efforts have included adding an explanatory marker. It’s one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. If you’re in town for a weekend, you’ll be able to find an interesting museum or historic site without spending a lot of time at a single location.

The Mississippi Museum of Art features works by renowned artists and photographers. There’s also an outdoor terrace for visitors to enjoy the works in the museum’s collection. The Eudora Welty House, which was once home to the internationally acclaimed author, is now a museum. The house is one of the best preserved literary houses in the country. It’s one of only four remaining structures of the writer. It’s worth a trip to this historic site if you’re looking for a unique experience.

While you’re in town, you’ll want to check out the Jackson Zoo. This historic attraction features more than 250 animals from 120 different species, including some rare and endangered ones. The Jackson Zoo is popular with families, and includes a carousel, splash pad, and shop for snacks and souvenirs. There’s even a free splash pad for children to enjoy. It’s best to arrive early for this exciting visit, however, as the zoo closes at 4pm.

For those who love to watch live theatre, there are several options for theater in Jackson. The city’s New Stage Theatre produces five plays each year, including holiday and kid’s shows. Many of the productions are aimed at the local population. If you want to watch some live shows while you’re in town, you can always go to the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra’s annual concert series. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents classical concerts as well as pop and rock concerts throughout the state.
