If you’re looking for a unique place to go on a family trip to Peterborough, Ontario, look no further than the Canadian Canoe Museum. This museum tells the history of Canada through the canoe. Water sports enthusiasts will love the large collection of canoes on display, and the museum has lots of interesting info boards and displays. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time and are truly immersed in the history of the region.

There’s something for everyone on the Buttertart tour. There’s the Electric City Bread Company on Sherbrooke St, the Magic Rollin Pin Bakery on King St, and DooDoo’s Bakery in Bailieboro. The Kawartha Buttertart Factory is at the intersection of Highway 4 and HWY 28 and features every flavour imaginable. Not a fan of butter tarts? Then you should visit Elmhirst Resort and Stillwater on the Lake.

Peterborough was home to Indigenous communities long before European settlers came to the area. The Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe people were among the first to call Peterborough home. In the Ojibway language, the city is referred to as Michi Saagiig, which translates to ‘place at the end of rapids’. The zoo has over 45 species of animals and a play area with many activities for children.

One of Peterborough’s natural gems is Jackson Park, which offers great hiking and picnicking opportunities next to a babbling creek. The park’s famous Pagoda Bridge is a perfect location for a wedding ceremony, and there are many other places to take a romantic stroll. If you’re a nature lover, you’ll also want to check out the many trails that wind through the park, including the famous Peterborough Japanese pagoda bridge.

Visitors can enjoy the city’s rich history by visiting the Peterborough Museum and Archives. The museum is donation-based and offers tours that will give you a thorough understanding of the city’s past. While you’re in town, you should also check out the Zimart Zimbabwe outdoor art feature, which is located on Rice Lake. And, don’t forget to check out the Gallery on the Lake for beautiful Canadian artwork. While you’re in town, you’ll want to find out more about the arts scene in Peterborough.

The craft beer scene in Peterborough has been bumping for a while. A few years ago, the only brewery in town was the Kawartha Lakes Brewery, but the arrival of Amsterdam Brewing Co. has opened the floodgates. Now, the city’s craft breweries have a variety of beers on tap, and there are even a few tours you can take. In Peterborough, you can enjoy local craft brews while chatting with friends and family.

In the late 1840s, a group of Irish immigrants settled on the west shore of the Otonabee River. The British Parliament had approved the transportation of poor Irish Catholic families to Upper Canada. By 1845, the city was home to the Canadian Postage Stamp Company, whose designer Sandford Fleming later designed. In 1845, the city welcomed the first resident physician, Dr. John Hutchison. In 1850, the town incorporated.
