Gold County California is a historic region in northern California located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. Famed for its mineral deposits and gold mines, this region attracted waves of immigrants during the 1849 California Gold Rush. Today, you can see many of the places where gold was mined during this time period. There are many ways to explore this region. To start your journey, visit the gold fields of California. Coloma is a town dotted with historical buildings that were built with the wealth of the mining industry. A trip to the town’s Marshall Gold Discovery State Park will reveal the history and architecture of the Gold Rush era. Here, you can sample the famous fried chicken and visit a museum featuring restored buildings and period costumes. There is also a museum and a cafe where you can enjoy a hearty lunch while learning about the region’s history.
