15 Best things to Do in Omaha

May 30, 2022 | More: Omaha| Things to Do

If you’re travelling alone, consider taking an Omaha historical highlights tour. This walking tour is a great way to get a sense of the city’s history while also interacting with a local guide. In addition to giving you a tour of the city’s sights, you’ll learn more about the history of the city, including the earliest recorded settlements in the area. If you’re traveling with your children, the city’s Henry Doorly Zoo is also worth a visit.

If trains aren’t your thing, the Durham Museum is the place for you. The museum contains humongous model trains and old train cars. The exhibits at the museum are varied, but all focus on Omaha history. There’s also a rotating special exhibition that features a variety of Omaha history, like dinosaurs or Muppets. There’s also an old-fashioned soda fountain, which you can enjoy after exploring the museum’s exhibits. However, be sure to check on opening hours before visiting the museum, as it’s scheduled for remodeling and expansion.

If you’re traveling with a group, consider taking a cruise on Omaha’s riverboat. The River City Star is the only riverboat in the city and offers both public and private cruises. The boat has two decks and a modern bar, but it also offers plenty of space for special events. There are several places to visit while taking a cruise in Omaha. The Old Market, the core of downtown Omaha, is one of the best places to experience the city’s history and culture. In fact, it’s one of the oldest commercial districts in the country, and the railroad helped develop the area.

Henry Doorly Zoo is another fantastic attraction in Omaha. With over 160 acres, the zoo is an excellent place for families to visit. It includes a Skyfari ride that offers breathtaking views of the animals. There’s even a butterfly pavilion, giraffes, gorillas, and more. This zoo has been rated as one of the top five zoos in the world. You can spend a few hours at the Henry Doorly Zoo or other attractions while you’re here.

For a great experience while visiting the city, make sure to take a stroll through the Old Market. This historic area of Omaha features many museums, galleries, and interesting shops. The Old Market also has some of the best bookstores in the midwest, and it’s an excellent spot for strolling the cobblestone streets. Besides shopping, you can also catch a live performance at the Orpheum Theater. And of course, the Old Market is a great place to grab a bite to eat!

If you’re looking for something to do in the area, you may want to consider a trip to the Gerald Ford Memorial. This facility is adjacent to the Crook House and is the official research center for the Douglas County Historical Society. Here, you’ll be able to find a variety of interesting and informative historical documents and materials. If you’re interested in genealogy or preservation, the staff will be happy to help you with your research. You can also enjoy ice skating on the lake in the winter.
