15 Classic Souvenirs from Omaha

May 30, 2022 | More: Omaha| Souvenirs

For art and craft lovers, there are plenty of places to find the perfect souvenir to take home from your trip. From handmade crafts to local souvenirs, there is something for everyone to find in Omaha. If you’re looking for a great way to support local artists and artisans, the Made in Omaha store is a must. The store features many handmade items, including jewelry, home decor, seasonal decorations, and even custom framing. A family-owned business since 1950, the shop features both a gallery and a store to purchase Omaha souvenirs.

The city has a thriving arts and music scene, and has been named the home of Indie Rock. There are several national and local musical acts in Omaha every week. Whether you’re a music lover or an art enthusiast, you’re sure to find a performance that will satisfy your sense of style. For those who like to get out and explore, Omaha has an abundance of art galleries and museums. The downtown area is home to the Holland Performing Arts Center, which opened in 2005.

Music lovers should explore Omaha’s rich musical history. The city was home to four of the country’s largest meatpacking companies by the 1950s. The city’s growth primarily came from the meatpacking industry. The Union Stockyards were the largest livestock and meatpacking center in the country, and Omaha even surpassed Chicago as the biggest city for the industry by 1955. Despite its size, Omaha has remained a cultural hub, with many major festivals and concerts taking place in the city.

Families looking for an affordable place to raise a family should consider Omaha. Although the city boasts a beautiful skyline and a thriving business scene, it retains a friendly atmosphere that keeps its residents’ wallets full. The city has few traffic jams, and many people can get around within a 20-minute drive. No-car areas include downtown and Old Market. Pedestrian-friendly streets make it an ideal place for families with children.

A common variation of Omaha is Hi/Lo. The high hand wins the pot, while the low hand loses. The lowest hand in any other game, however, is weaker and would result in a payout for the low-hand player. For example, a high hand might be a 7 of diamonds or a 6 of hearts. Likewise, a low hand might include a four of diamonds and a three of any suit. The player with the highest hand wins the pot, and the other player with a weak hand loses half.

The Omaha and Ponca Native American tribes were closely related and spoke the same language. The Omaha and Ponca tribes lived in the upper Missouri River area, between the Cannonball and the Grand Rivers. Their linguistic heritage is similar to that of their southern cousins, the Osage and Kansa tribes. The Omaha were also closely related, sharing many social customs. You can still see evidence of Ponca culture in early Nebraskan history by visiting the Omaha Indian Museum.
