April 21, 2022 | More: Georgetown Colorado| Hiking Trails

If you’re thinking of moving to Georgetown, Colorado, you’ve come to the right place. The town is a county seat in Clear Creek County, a territorial charter municipality in southwest Colorado. The Georgetown area is known for its historic mining districts, and is a good place to explore the local art scene. While the town has a small population, the overall feel of the city is friendly and welcoming. This is one reason why so many people enjoy living in Georgetown.

The historic Hamill House Museum is a gem. Built in 1879 for a silver baron, the building was made from the finest materials available. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, the home still retains its original details. The town is home to the Georgetown Trust, a historical society dedicated to preserving the past and telling the story of Georgetown. The town was named for the famous silver baron William Hamill, who lived in the house from 1859 to 1911.

Georgetown Lake provides year-round fishing, and Clear Creek flows east of town. Clear Creek also contains trout. Hiking trails on Guanella Pass are another reason to visit this mountain town. You can summit the fourteeners Silverdale and Mt. Bierstadt. Other hikes off the pass include 7:30 Mine Trail, Mt. Guanella Pass, and Silverdale. You can also stay in Georgetown’s historic district and enjoy hot tubs and private decks.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Georgetown, try the historic Rose Street Bed and Breakfast. Its 1880s home is a great place to relax after a day of skiing. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, and the owner, Kimberly Knox, is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast who is passionate about sharing her knowledge with visitors. She’ll share local history and tips for maximizing your mountain adventures. There are numerous restaurants and hotels in Georgetown that are worth trying.

The Georgetown-Silver Plume Historic District is located in the upper Clear Creek valley, about 45 miles west of Denver. This area was a thriving mining town during the gold rush. Gold was found in the Argentine Pass area in 1863, and Georgetown’s mining industry quickly grew. The Silver Plume Railroad was restored in Silver Plume and Georgetown’s Victorian buildings have been beautifully preserved. Georgetown is a popular destination for residents of the Front Range.

History buffs will enjoy visiting the Georgetown Hydroelectric Station, which was built in the early 1900s and is still in operation today. Inside, you can see early electrical appliances, generators, and other equipment from more than a century ago. You can also visit the Georgetown Energy Museum, which displays photographs and historical information about the town’s history. The Georgetown Energy Museum is open to the public seven days a week from June to September. There are several other museums in Georgetown, Colorado, so make sure to visit one!

As the gold and silver fields grew, the town experienced a final boom between 1890 and 1892. Public works such as electric street lights and sewer systems helped bring Georgetown into the modern age. However, in 1893, the national depression and repeal of the Sherman Act led to a silver price crash and Georgetown was never again a boom town. The Georgetown Loop was reopened in August 1984. The Silver Plume Depot was restored to its original appearance.
