15 Tourist Attractions in Fort Bragg North Carolina

Fort Bragg is a military cantonment that spans 300 square miles in Cumberland and Hoke Counties. Originally conceived as an artillery training center for World War I, Fort Bragg was completed after the armistice in 1918. The town was named for North Carolina native Braxton Bragg and Pope Air Field is named for Lt. Harley Pope, who died in a plane crash. The military post is a significant part of the local community.

Founded as a fort for artillery, Fort Bragg has since evolved into a world-class fighting force. In honor of its 100th anniversary, the town hosted events that celebrated the contributions of servicemembers, their families, and its civilian workforce. Paratroopers past and present converged on Fort Bragg for a week-long celebration. Pfc. Alleea Oliver took the photo below of her fellow paratroopers.

When visiting Fort Bragg, North Carolina, you can find numerous shopping areas. There are several malls with big-name stores. You can sample local and international cuisine, and enjoy the locally owned Fayetteville Pie Company. The Pie Company has both sweet and savory specialties and is a veteran-owned and operated business. The town is also located near the Coastal Carolina University campus. A variety of other museums are located in the surrounding area.

For the families of military members, there are several options for education. The town is equipped with two major PXs, a commissary, and a small shopping center. The town has several restaurants and gas stations, as well as two dental clinics. You can even find a movie theater on Fort Bragg. With the influx of military members, Fort Bragg has many civilian residents. There are many benefits of living on the base.

Aside from being home to the XVIII Airborne Corps and U.S. Army Paratute Team, Fort Bragg is also home to the United States Army Special Operations Command and 82nd Airborne Corps. Its other facilities include Corps Support Command and several airborne units. These include the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, the 16th Military Police Brigade, the 20th Engineer Brigade, and the 44th Medical Command.

If you’re a foodie, you’ll love the Pharaohs Village restaurant, which was recently ranked 46 on Yelp’s list of the Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States. With a variety of options to choose from, this family-run restaurant is a must try if you’re living in Fort Bragg. You’ll find plenty to do and a warm welcome from local residents.

The Fort Bragg Army Base is one of the largest in the world, and is home to the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Forces. The area encompasses over 500 square miles, which includes fourteen thousand acres of training grounds. Approximately two-hundred thousand people live on the base and have a lot to do. In addition to the Fort, the military bases in Cumberland County and surrounding counties also have significant economic impacts.
